My favourite twisted-electronic-freaky-world-pop-beat husband/wife band Rainbow Arabia have been remixed by equally bonkers LA producer team Nguzunguzu to produce this quite wonderful version of recent single 'Without You'. Their debut album 'Boys And Diamonds' is released through Kompact on 28th February.
Sometimes Brooklyn/sometimes Michigan producer Elk mixes pet sounds, tropical pop, sound effects and 60s soul on 'Volleyball', the first track taken from the forthcoming debut album 'Let's Get Married'. The bedroom recorded, self released album follows up his 'Honey Range' EP which is currently available for free download on Bandcamp.
Described as a "hillbilly savant", Daniel Trudeau's one man band Pregnant has released 'Regional Music'; an album of "poptimistic jubilations, hip-hop freakouts, and somber meditations". The track 'Wiff Of Father' has a good attempt at containing all those elements and more.
'14 Versions Of The Same EP' is a collaborative music project between husband and wife duo Long Division With Remainders and experimental artists from around the world including Leyland Kirby, Isnaj Dui, BLK w/BEAR and Sone Institute. Basic electronic fumblings were sent to anyone interested, then added to, remixed and known as Version 1, Version 2 etc - before being offered for free download on the LDWR site. An impressive very limited edition box set of Volume One is now on sale with bespoke packaging by Damian O’Hara.
My head wouldn't normally be turned by ballet but this track from the new Pacific! album is something else.
"The album was concieved as the score to a modern ballet interpretation of greek myth Narcissus. 'Venus Rising' is the soundtrack to the Godess of love Venus, chastising Narcissus for his mistreatment of the nymph Echo..."
Ok...far out. Its also an synth-laden robot-soul disco-ballad. The album is out 13th September on Alan Braxe's Vulture label.
You've already seen the video for Trentemøller's 'Sycamore Feeling', now grab the MP3. Really looking forward to the album 'Into The Great Wide Yonder'.
The Form Group is Matt Ashton, guitarist in London 5-piece The Leaf Library and former guitarist in Peel-favourites Saloon. Using guitars, electronics and field recordings he makes experimental and soporific drone music that invokes the looped guitar explorations of Robert Fripp and Brian Eno, the soundtracks of Peter Broderick and the spatial atmospherics of Vladislav Delay and Basic Channel.
‘Four Improvisations’ was recorded direct to minidisc in Reading in 2003 and features delayed guitar, amp hum and the manipulated sounds of a dripping tap. Originally self-released as a CDR this re-release is a fully remastered version with new artwork.
Joined by violinist Alice Lloyd, The Form Group performed an alternative soundtrack to Wim Wenders’ classic ‘Alice in the Cities’ as part of the Reading Experimental Film Festival in October last year.
They are currently working on the next release, a conceptual long form piece tentatively titled ‘Early Morning Songs’.
Trentmøeller's new single 'Sycamore Feeling' is taken from his forthcoming album 'Into The Great Wide Yonder'. The video was shot in the deserted ghost town of Centralia, PA, notorious for a mine fire that has burned beneath the ground since 1962. This has resulted in some spooky shots of smoke and steam rising from the earth amongst the deserted buildings.
If you ever catch yourself thinking "I just don't freak out hard enough these days" then Chicago's Mako Sica are the band to flip your crazy switch. Recorded completely live without overdubs, their far out debut album 'Dual Horizon' is released courtesy of La Société Expéditionnaire, limited to 250 LPs. Exploring punk, jazz, avant-gard, drone, chanting, noise and psychedelia - often at the same time - opening track of three 'I'Itoi' (named for a mythological Native American god who lives in a mountain cave and watches over the desert) sets out the band's agenda for dark, ever evolving experimentalism. If you make it through to the other side the full 40 minute cycle of the album is your next journey to take, released 16th February.
Having soaked up free jazz in Ann Arbor, house and techno in Detroit and folk and pop in Thailand Laurel Halo had a unique world of influences to draw on, which has resulted in a very distinctive sound. Now living and recording material in Brooklyn, 'Future Fruit' has been remixed by PS favourite Radiant Dragon.
The biggest Hooter in Holland, DJ Café Pig, presents a mix of favourite songs from all over the place.
Café Pig is an occasional night taking place the more ‘proper’ venues of historical Amsterdam. The night focuses on proper songs from live acts and various people who drop in to spin/click.

What with Proper Songs HQ still not having the 'net since moving (though we're not homeless now) and to make up for the absence of a podcast this month, here is a 1 hour 'Off The Grid' mix straight off the old vinyl - snaps, crackles and pops at no extra cost.
