Boston duo Sonnymoon cover 'Yes', their favorite Beyonce track from her 2003 album 'Dangerously In Love'. Their new album, which follow's 2009's 'Golden Age', is coming soon on Plug Research.
Pictureplane's 'Post Physical' is what what 80s "striving to overcome adversity" movie montages were made to be soundtracked by. Pictureplane’s forthcoming album 'Thee Physical' is now streaming in its entirety here.
My 23 year old self would have gone utterly mental for this. Sounds like hip hop used to sound when you knew you were correct to call it hip hop. Classic.

Over 40 international artists have donated music for the Nihon Kizuna compilation in aid of the Japan disaster relief effort. Nihon Kizuna, or 日本絆 in Japanese roughly translates as ‘bond of friendship with Japan’.
Following the earthquake and tsunami which devastated the northern coast and prefectures of Japan on Friday March 11th 2011, a small group of Tokyo-based artists (from Japan, Ukraine and France) and one visiting London-based journalist (from Italy) decided to pull their efforts and contacts together to do the only thing they could to help the country and its people – sell music to raise awareness of the devastation that hit the area and raise money for its people and the relief effort.
The motivation behind Nihon Kizuna was simple: in face of the feeling of helplessness many felt here in Japan in the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami this compilation seemed like the best way to express our support and love for the country and its people. Amid widespread scaremongering and panic from the foreign media it felt only right to stand tall alongside the people of Japan who have always welcomed foreign artists and musicians with open arms and hearts.
The compilation was put together in five days thanks to the internet. Every artist and/or label on the compilation donated a track, either previously released, unreleased or created especially for the occasion. Many of the tracks, artists and labels on the compilation have a direct relation to Japan, further highlighting the connection many people outside of the country feel towards Japan in the current situation. It’s no small thing to say that many of those involved feel a kinship to the country regardless of whether or not they’ve ever lived in or visited the country.
Buy at nihonkizuna.bandcamp.com. All proceeds from the compilation will be given to the Japan Red Cross directly.

Mount Kimbie's 'Before I Move Off' has had a new video produced by photographer and filmmaker Tyrone Lebon, who also produced the group's album artwork. I only received news about this new Paul White Velvet Underground sampling jam less that 24 hours ago and its already sold out on vinyl. Check out what the fuss is about with a pay-what-you-want MP3 at his Bandcamp.
I holidayed in San Diego last month and checked out precisely 0% local music. If Raw Moans are anything to go by I should have invested more time as their beautifully slow motion 'lectro-soul is one of my favourite new discoveries. 'Rose Bath' is featured on their 'We Want It Beautiful Not Real' double CDR out now and they're also featured on the 'ISVOLT' limited edition tour LP which you can pick up when they play The Den in London on 6th December
'Emotional Colours', 16 tracks of spaced out experimental European boom-bap that made the debut LP of Bavarian producer Swede:art, was released in June this year. The LP has now been given a different twist by a number of worldwide beat-adventurers including TOKiMONSTA (Brainfeeder), Andreas Saag, B. Bravo and Duktus (Brownswood Records), Waxolutionists, Aroop Roy, Matt Flores, Devonwho and Kidkanevil who delivers this ear-bending slo-mo jam.
I caught Virginia's Evenings on recommendation from John Brainlove yesterday and immediately downloaded the fantastic (and free) 'North Dorm' EP. Catch the five tracks of glitchgaze dreamhop yourself and bask in their gorgeous fuzziness.
Eskmo has signed to Ninja Tune for his full debut, set for release in October. His very individual dark dubstep meets wonky (does anyone call it wonky any more?) meets gothic folk sound is evident on first single 'Cloudlight'.
Dream Cop floats in a haze between dreamy shoegaze, glitched electronics and resampled hip hop. 'Daily Mirage' is a fuzzy slow-motion surf-jam while 'Beach City/Carol I Know' samples Pet Sounds era Beach Boys and twists Wilson's classic sounds into a hypnotic Panda Bear style groove.
On their self-titled debut album, Quadron flip the future RnB sound of Sa-Ra, Plantinum Pied Pipers et al with Motown influences and a familiar Danish pop aesthetic that recalls the much underrated Benny Sings. Single 'Pressure' accentuates the Motown feel to excellent memory jogging effect.
Paul White pretty much leads the way in psychedelic beatmaking with his "Strange Dreams Of..." album a highlight of 2009. News of a new album "...& The Purple Brain" was announced today along with this typically cosmic-rock infused taster.
Proper Songs spoke with Chaz Bundick / Toro Y Moi back in July when he mentioned two albums planned on Car Park in 2010. 'Causers Of This' is the first "more dreamy/poppy/new wave" one and builds on the sound that he, fellow South Carolina resident Washed Out and Neon Indian have exported so successfully and rapidly to the world. Despite packing in elements of side-chained French house, the wonky world of hip hop, psychedelic West Coast pop and dreamy indie moments; the ideas are combined in such a crafted manner that it remains coherent throughout. Stand out moments include single 'Blessa' (video below) and the New Jack Swing slap-bass-happy title track. 'Causers Of This' is an accomplished album that bodes well for the future.
