Fela Kuti : Reissues

Knitting Factory Records release their third set of reissues by Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti this week. Spanning 1976-1980 the titles are Zombie, Upside Down/Music of Many Colours, Stalemate/Fear Not For Man, Opposite People/Sorrow, Tears and Blood, Shuffering & Shmiling/No Agreement) and V.I.P./ Authority Stealing.

Orange Juice : Coals To Newcastle

Good news for Orange Juice fans, Domino are releasing a deluxe 6 CD box set of the band's album output, BBC sessions and extra tracks along with a DVD of videos and live performances. The set hits the streets on 8th November.

The Boo Radleys : Reissues

The Boo Radleys were my favourite band in the early/mid 90s, and news of reissues sparked of a pang of nostalgia at Proper Songs. They were mainly remembered for their single 'Wake Up Boo!', but The Boo Radleys were more than a one hit wonder. Their finest moment 'Giant Steps' was an ambitious 17 track genre clash that NME's readers voted as album of the year in 1993 and still stands up today.

'Giant Steps' and follow up 'Wake Up Boo!' have been reissued by Cherry Red along with bonus discs containing B-sides and remixes, which include some of their best work.

The Beach Boys : End Of The Summer

This collection of tracks was put together for my good friend Sativo from btglondon.com as a long overdue introduction to a side of The Beach Boys that most people are unaware of - but is also my personal favourite. Mostly taken from their later albums - post Pet Sounds - it focuses on their more experimental work led by genius Brian Wilson. It also includes a few rare and unreleased versions of songs that non-obsessive Beach Boy fans probably won't know.
